Fish in Can

Fish in trendy cans

Serving a can of fish with picos or baguettes in Spanish tapas bars is currently very popular, especially when paired with a delicious glass of wine. These canned fish usually come from the Atlantic Ocean and the range is extensive, with different types of fish and shellfish and various flavors and marinades. Quality is of great importance in Spain and the price difference is noticeable: a can of fish here can easily cost four times as much compared to Dutch ‘supermarket tuna’. The taste of Spanish Albacore tuna in olive oil cannot be compared to that of a can of Dutch tuna.

Take a look at our canned fish products and taste the difference between a can of 1 euro sardines or a can of good quality Spanish sardines.

NORTHERN TUNA IN OLIVE OIL

Our bonito from the north in olive oil is a delicious alternative to the usual canned fish with its red tin and unmistakable oval shape. The bonito consists of tender and juicy loin and is perfect for discerning gourmets.

It is striking that beautiful fish preserves are increasingly being served in cafes and restaurants in the Netherlands. In addition, cans are getting more space in delicatessens and fish shops and the range is increasing.

Our range includes exclusive seafood from the Galician Rías, Ventresca and Bonito del Norte from the Cantabrian coast, sardines, octopus, mackerel, cod, and much more. All these products are of the highest quality and have an extraordinary taste, combined with a contemporary and unmistakable image.

If you are on holiday in Spain and spend a lot of time in the supermarket, you will see that the canned fish department is huge. Where we have a shelf of a meter wide here, it is often a few meters there. And the variety of products is much greater.

Canned fish is mainly seen as practical here, because it keeps well for a long time and is easy to use. A salad or pasta with canned fish is quickly made and you immediately ate fish. But in Spain it is a completely different story. There you have fresh fish and canned fish, two completely different things. Canned fish is not a substitute for fresh fish, because canned fish is mainly eaten at the aperitivo – the moment you have a drink together before a meal or instead of an extensive meal. A bowl of cockles or a can of sardines are often part of the tapas offer.

Spanish canned fish usually comes from the Atlantic Ocean and the range has expanded to include many different types of fish and shellfish, and different flavors and marinades. Quality plays an important role.

Where canned fish often has to be cheap here, a can of fish can easily cost four times as much in Spain. But you can taste that in what you get. A can of Dutch ‘supermarket tuna’ cannot be compared to a can of Spanish ventresca tuna, and just taste the difference between a can of sardines of one euro or a can of Spanish sardines of good quality.

Canned fish. The tastiest fish, in cans and jars!

In short: Spanish preserves are totally hip!
